1-LIVE VIEW SCREEN ALWAYS ON :

Of course the camera needs energy to run and the more bright it is, the more battery it drains, also switching on the "LIVE VIEW" will consume more power as the DSLR will monitor the sensor directly.

-Try switching the "LIVE VIEW" off and save up to 60% of battery life.

2- "IMAGE STABILIZATION" ALWAYS ON :

This property is found in some of the DSLR lenses AKA "IS" in canon & "VR" in Nikon, which also drains the battery power as it requires some motion sensors to be activated .

-If you are using the camera on tripod or shooting with a fast shutter speeds then its not necessary to use that option.

3-CONTINUOUS "AUTO FOCUS" ALWAYS ON :

The smart DSLRs nowadays have the option of continuously monitoring any motion of objects within the frame and tries constantly to keep it in focus range according to sharpness and other measurements .

Keeping the Focus on will need more power to support the sensors & the Lens motor which definitely drains your battery faster.

-If you are shooting Stills,Landscapes,Macro, etc where no need for auto-focusing, try switching it off to increase your battery life.

4-PRESSING THE "SHUTTER-RELEASE" BUTTON CONSTANTLY :

One of the main reasons that drains the battery life, is resting your finger tip on the "Shutter Release " button, where it will make the camera in a continuous object monitoring, trying to focus on any possible subject, which in return will activate the sensors & the lens motor mechanism, consuming more energy . -Try resting your finger away from

that button and use it only when needed.

5-USING THE INTERNAL FLASH DURING DAY TIME :

Some of the beginner photographers

would prefer starting with the

easy "AUTO" mode, as it will help them a lot in capturing the moments, but some times it will activate the flashlight during day time to compensate the needed light while metering automatically, so you will see their flash blink even outside with the brightest sun light .

In order to overcome that issue, they should start learning the Photography Basics & the use of (Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO) to get the best results.

If its not possible to get on with these easily, there's also an (AUTO) mode but without flashlight which you can be used during the day time to save your battery,

but always we say : "LEARN THE MANUAL WAY"

6-ACTIVATING EXTRA SOFTWARE PLUG-INS :

Any processing activity like :

noise reduction, color effects, additional meters or monitoring on the screen will require an extra task from the processor, which in turn will lead to reduced battery life .

-Try to keep the camera screen simple and clear when no add-ons are required,

7-FORGETTING THE CAMERA ON VIDEO RECORDING :

Yes, it might look funny, but some

times it happens to touch the recording button by accident which leads to a huge battery drainage.

-Try to pay attention to your "RED RECORDING DOT" and camera status meters.

8-NOT USING THE "BATTERY SAVER/AUTO-OFF" OPTION :

Nowadays, all new DSLRs are

having a "Battery Saver" option in their Firmware which turns the camera off after a selected period of time, in case you've forgotten to switch it off after starring at a nice girl in a wedding ;) or getting busy with the food in a ceremony lol.

-Don't worry, while the camera turns itself off, it saves the latest settings you were using and just a simple press to any button will bring it on to life.

9-SHOOTING WITH "RAW" FORMAT :

As we know the "RAW" format is a Non-Compressed image with a huge amount of information regarding the image details and editing possibility, so if you were on a family trip or simple party and "Quality of Editing" & "High Res" is not necessary, then you can switch to the poor JPEG format to reduce the processing time and energy, leading to extend you battery life.

BUT DON'T QUIT THE RAW FOR THAT REASON.

10-FORGETTING TO RECHARGE YOUR BATTERIES !!

Yes, as you heard, forgetting to recharge batteries is one of most common reasons of battery death during shooting.

Always remember to recharge your batteries at the night before shooting day, also check the batteries if they were kept unused for a long time as they tend to get discharged with time even if not used.
